Service - Ron Dunn Executive Director of The Downtown Mission

Date:
Sunday, September 24, 2017 - 10:30am

This Sunday morning we had the pleasure of hosting Ron Dunn, the Executive Director of the Windsor Downtown Mission, in our pulpit.

Ron came to update us on the programs and activities at the DTM.

Ron thanked us for our support for both the food bank and hygiene donations, as well as our teams who prepare and serve meals each month.

There are many activities to take part in at the DTM.  This coming Saturday is the Windsor Ride for Refuge.  This event is a bike, walk, or run family and friend fundraiser supporting charities who provide refuge and hope for displaced, vulnerable, and exploited people everywhere.

In April, the DTM opened the Sanctuary at 875 Ouellette Ave.  This emergency crash bed program is open to men, women, and youth.  The Sanctuary opened with 74 beds and allows access to beds, showers, and general hygiene amenities.     They have recently expanded and now have 103 beds.

The DTM is host to many programs including:

The Phoenix Recovery center – which specializes in addiction and recovery needs for all, not just those who have need of the other various mission programs.

The Let’s Talk Women’s Group – which allows women to meet and discuss issues specifically effecting women, through fellowship and encouragement.

The enterprise programs include the Do Good Deli and Chari-tees which provide individuals experience in culinary skills, cash handling, and customer service.

We encourage everyone to be involved in some way at the DTM, and to keep their eyes open for an announcement for the opportunity to visit and tour the new Mission facilities.
